Sheggy,
It's good to tell everything, even the yucky stuff. I did notice
that there are new members and I don't want them to get discouraged.
I am 10 weeks out today and I have lost 50 lbs. I went from 251 to
200.8 lbs as of last night. We have all had some ups and downs, but
the weight loss WILL happen if you have this surgery. Some of you
will lose faster and some slower. It semms, GENERALLY, that if you
are required to diet before surgery, your after-surgery weight seems
to come off slower. Although that is not always the case.
I am having roly poly syndrome right now. Until last weekend I had
not bought or worn any clothes other than what I was wearing before
the surgery. I went to Walmart and bought 4 sweaters in the $11-12
range in size 16. Size 16....WOW. I wore one yesterday and one
today. I went from a size 22 or 2X. I can hardly believe it, but I
keep telling myself that I have lost an AVERAGE of 5 lbs a week. And
three of those weeks I only lost .3 lbs. What a roller coaster ride.
Following the rules is important. If you haven't had the surgery it
is best to prepare. I don't mean for you to go out and buy a lot of
foods that will be recommended by your NUT (nutritionist) because
your tastes will change rapidly. You need to reduce your soda
intake, yes, the diet kind also. Carbonation is out, based on what
the NUT says. Stop smoking. Yes, that is very hard but we are obese
and that is just one bad mark against us when it comes to the
anesthesia, you don't want to have smoking add to the problem. There
is a very good book called "the Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by A Carr,
I think. It worked for a couple of us. Start exercising...just
walking is all you need to do. Yes, it hurts, and you don't have
enough time, and it gets you out of breath and it's starting to get
cold outside. You will wish you had been walking after the surgery,
that's all I will say. Food decisions are hard to predict, so other
than cutting back on the carbonation and caffeine, there isn't much
you can do to prepare for this journey.
Good luck,
Lizanne
