I found out last night at my live group meeting that my surgeons office
gives out dr. signed wallet cards that ask for restuarants to allow us
to order from the kids menus or senior menus as a result of a medical
need. You should all check and see if your office does the same thing
and if not, suggest it. I am sure that they can do something really
quickly. I am getting mine on Monday. :)

Have you told Dr. M? He might have something that could calm your stomach down
and make it easier to tolerate the first few post-surgical weeks.

Hi Me again,
Ok...So I at some of the soup (chicken soup from the hotel). I ate
it very slowly, probably over about 45 minutes. I only at about 1.5
cups of broth with a little bit of stuff that was floating in it.
Now my tummy is growling again. So I am eating a small cup of
strawberry yogurt my DH found at a store here. It is low fat. I
still have to eat really slowly.
Of course right after I eat, the darn food just goes right through
me. I have very very loose stools right now almost like water
(sorry, so graffic). So I lose it as fast as I get it in mostly. I
can't keep eating forever like this. Does this sound at all familiar
to anyone. I have heard people say they didn't feel like eating at
all after surgery. I don't feel really like eating, but if I don't
my tummy gets very upset.
At least the yogurt might help counteract the effects of all the
antibiotics! I am in for one really big yeast infection later!
I really do feel alot better though. My incision doesn't hurt much
at all unless I move around alot. I keep my binder on all the time!
The worst part of all this is the tummy hunger, the physical
tiredness and the loose stools so far.

Lora,
I think when I became fat, no one saw me any more. They kept
picturing me in their minds as a less obese person. So when we bring
their attention to us, they are comparing us to the mental picture.
The one that couldn't see us as fat as we were. If you want a better
idea of what I'm talking about, look at your children. I have a
mental picture of my 22 year old daughter. I am sure that she has
changed since my mind took that picture. If I were to look at her
now, I would be able to see a miriad of differences.
You are amazingly different in such a short period of time. You
should be so proud of yourself. It's easy for all of us to see
because we have no pre-conceived mental picture of you. WOW is all I
can say.

After surgery blood tests

2007-10-31 03:21:23

Lisa A,
Have you had any after-surgery blood tests? I saw my PCP a couple of
nights ago, and asked him about some blood tests for vitamin levels,
cholesterol, etc and he told me to wait until I lost more weight.
It's been more than 2 months and 50 lbs since my surgery. What is he
waiting for? Sharon, maybe you know why he is waiting. Could it
have to do with what insurance will cover? I don't know.

LMAO!! I just LOVE typos!!!! Shannon, please forgive me for laughing... but where exactly is your PUBLIC area??? (feel free to slap me if you want, I deserve it) :)

On a serious note... I'm so sorry you had to go through that, it must have been very painful and made you miserable.

Pat
Shannon Bowen <sheggy1969@...

I couldn't sleep in my bed for several months. I had to sleep in the recliner. I can sleep on my stomache now though. So it will get better! I used to have to prop myself up on lots of pillows, now I don't need to do that since the incision has healed. I get a little freaked out though when I try to work out because I can feel the incision pulling. I get worried because I had a C-section incision that split open when I had my youngest 10 years ago. It was an emergency C-section (baby was prolapsed cord and had no heartbeat) and they cut me from bellybutton down to top of the public area. The incision split open and I had this gaping hole in my belly for a LONG time. I had in home nurses come and pack it for months. It's fine now, but I'm so afraid of splitting things open again.--probably shouldn't have told you all that--don't want to freak you out, just sharing.

3 inches?!? Oh, I am SO jealous! (Mine started at 8, but is now down
to 7... prehaps as I continue to shrink it will go to 6?!?)
I still have pain, but it's mostly when I go to bed now... it doesn't
matter what position (can't sleep on my tummy, obviously, which is my
preferred position)... flat is best, and it really hurts INSIDE if I
try my left side.

Reminders

2007-10-30 07:26:38

Ally,
I was wondering about the reminders. Did anyone use the vitamin
reminder from the other group? Was there something we should be
reminded every day or so? Should we be reminded to take our biotin
and Zinc daily to help keep our hair? (mine is rapidly falling out).
Should we be reminded to get up and walk so we don't get DVT? Or even
reminded to finish that bottle of water? Just kidding actually. What
reminders do we need....any ideas?

Re: Robin report 2

2007-10-29 20:12:50

Hi Becca,
It was really strange, I guess they felt very sorry for my pathetic
self and I use the bedpan all night (such a novel experience!).
Maybe because I got nauseated everytime I moved or something. I got
up bright and early the next morning though for a shower and the
whole 9 yards. Changed the dressing, sat in the lounge chair etc....
My tummy was very unhappy about feeling hunger pains and not being
fed! I had to keep spitting in a towel to keep from throwing up. It
sounds strange, but every time my tummy started growling, my mouth
started watering and i just got worse nausea. So spitting in the
towel helped a little.
Robin

Did Anyone see the Truck who hit me????? I'M BACK!!

2007-10-29 11:18:53

Hi Everyone,
I feel like I have been gone forever. I got back to my hotel today a
while ago.
Who said this was the easy way out? Let's beat them until they DIE!
Just kidding....kind of!
I am feel alot better now than I did the day after surgery. As I
woke up I thought to myself... (they were taking the tube out of my
throat)..What was I thinking? I wasn't broken! Why did I let them
fix me?
I got to my room feeling extremely nauseated and HOT! I was so
afraid I would throw up and rip a stitch or something. I didn't but
I was very close a few times.
I slept off and on that whole day after surgery. I remember a few
people saying Hi and such, but mostly I just remember wanting someone
to shoot me!
On top of everything else, after the first 12 hours or so I started
feeling my stomach actually growling? It was hungry and I couldn't
eat anything. I don't know about anyone here, but when I get very
hungry, I get nauseated! So my body kept telling me to eat and I
couldn't eat.
I still have that problem now actually. I thought my tummy would not
feel hungry. At least that is what I remember reading somewhere.
But NOT SO! I have been thinking of nothing but food and eating
since DAY 1 after surgery. Of course now that I can eat, I only get
liquids etc... I have to say that jello here is AWFUL! the chicken
broth at the hospital was pretty good, but I could only take in a
little of it. My stomach is hungry, but I can't eat. What the heck
is that all about?????
I got some chicken soup from room service today (it just got here).
I am eating the broth mostly with a few tiny things that are floating
in it after I chew the heck out of it. It is VERY good! I just
can't eat fast enough to make my tummy grumbling go away. Will it
EVER settle down?
It is very strange that everything sounds good to eat, but by the
time I actually get it, I don't want to eat more than a bit or two.
Is it fear or what? I am really trying to get a good feeling as to
what my body is saying. I is mostly saying.....HEY!!! What did you
do to me? Hey...Where is the chocolate and the peanut butter?
Hey...Where is the MEAT?????
Oh well... I actually am feeling alot better today than before. I
know every day I will feel better. I just am having trouble getting
comfortable and finding a position to sleep in. AND trying to make
my tummy happy so it won't always feel nauseated.
I say Kelly before her surgery, but not since. She was sleeping when
I left the hospital. Michelle is walking around the hospital and
seems to be getting much better. Janice came by with Janice and they
both look great and I am so jealous.
You know that saying where they tell you to take time to smell the
roses? Well...There are no roses here and I am tired of this
stinking nausea and exhaustion.
OK..I will stop whining now.. How is everyone else doing?
Thanks everyone for the well wishes and the support. DH went out to
play golf and I am just getting to know the new me!

Good Morning you guys, I didn't mean to offend anyone about the clique comment. It was moreso kind of a comment to myself. I've never really felt like I fit in anywhere in life. At school when I was younger it just seemed like everyone made friends except for me. Even the new kids who sometimes start out solo but they always end up kinda finding their place in one group or another. But, not me. I'm always the lone ranger. BUT, its one of things I am working on in therapy....its got to be my perception and how I see myself. But, today is not a whoa-is-me-day!

I'm really glad that you guys have found each other and you do have something pretty special.

Re: [DrMarchesini-DS] HERNIA

2007-10-28 21:34:24

If you have a hernia, it will not go away on its own. I suggest you see a
surgeon fairly soon to determine how dangerous it might be. I, for instance,
have a hernia that is so large that my surgeon pronounced me pregnant (yeah,
sure, at 62 with no baby factory left). I digress. My hernia is so big that it
is not dangerous. The danger in many hernias seems 2B that a loop of bowel can
poke through, get caught, and become strangulated (meaning tissue death). You
can imagine what danger a strangulated bowel can cause. Please don't wait a
long time to see your surgeon. You need his advice to determine just how
dangerous your protuberance is. Mine is absolutely non-dangerous because it's
so big that my entire gut pokes out (no danger of strangulation). Some of the
smaller ones can cause major problems. Hugs, Sherry

Hi Konstantin,
I know George has dealt with this, so maybe he can offer you some advice.
AFAIK the only real solution is surgery. It is a rather unpleasant
procedure, but it does solve the problem. You might want to talk to your
PCP about getting an appointment with someone who can do it for you.

2007-10-28 08:24:12

Judy,
Isn't someone else having their surgery through Kaiser, Fremont? Was
it Alex? He was having a very difficult time losing the pre-surgery
weight. I don't think he wanted to make the effort, he just didn't
realise that an effort will need to be made even after the surgery.
For a while anyhow.
I am always using my brother as a model because he had the surgery 5
years ago. He makes no effort, now. He went from 410 lbs to 176 lbs
in less than a year. He now weighs more than that, probably 210,
because the 176 was way too low. He teases me a lot because he can
eat anything including Halloween candy without a hitch. He also
drinks those yummy alcoholic beverages, with no wild side effects
that can occur. He was the model patient, and none of the things
that I went through did he experience. It's so weird because we had
the same surgeon, and belong to the same family, so I thought we
would have very similar experiences.....WRONG!!
Oh, congradulations on soon becoming a grandma. That is so exciting,
and with your daughter living just down the road, you can be a large
part of that child's life. Are you excited or worried? Well, that
may be too personal. Excuse the nosiness.

I am happy to say that I finally have normal ones again...I was in bad shape before...I would bleed for 2 weeks and then have 2 weeks off then bleed a week or 2...they were all over the place and terrible. It did not surprise me that I was anemic. Finally I am spaced apart correctly. It is actually strange because now it seems like MONTHS between them, and it is really only 4 or 5 weeks. :) That is one of the best benefits this surgery had for me. I was suppose to have an oblation and I did not want that. Now it looks like I will be fine. I can not wait until January when I have my blood tests. It is going to be great to see if my iron levels have come up.

Dr. M told me to make sure that I added a tablespoon (maybe a
teaspoon - I don't remember) of Canola oil to my diet daily. He said
it had to be Canola oil and that this would keep the bowels moving
smoothly, keep skin moist & supple, retard hair loss and nail
weakness. I haven't done that yet - with all the antibiotics I am
taking the last thing I want is looser stools, LOL LOL. Maybe you
should give it a try. Also, I don't use TP anymore. I use moistened

Patrice....If you buy the Isopure you get a lot more for your money and you
don't need to use a blender or mixer...just stir with a spoon for a couple
of minutes. True, it isn't packets so it isn't convenient for packing but
think about it when you return home. I use one scoop in 8 oz. of soy milk
and that is 30 protein grams and actually even a little more since there is
protein in the Soy milk. W

Protein Liquid Shakes

2007-10-23 18:38:25

I am packing everything I will need in Curitiba. I remembered that
when I was on my last medically supervised Optifast diet I drank
five shakes a day. So I went to the clinic and bought some of those
packets for the trip. Then I looked on the internet and sure enough,
anyone can purchase them. Here is the link to HMR (Health
Management Resources):
http://www.intelligenthealthcenter.com/products/default.htm
They are 18 packets per box for $32.00 - about $1.77 per shake. Each
shake contains 10g of protein. The flavors are chocolate, vanilla
and chicken soup. The chicken soup is delicious. You can get them
lactose free if you prefer. Just add 6 oz. of hot (not boiling)
water and stir. I used to use a had mixer so everything dissolved
well.
Hope you enjoy them!

Tell everything

2007-10-23 15:37:23

Sheggy,
It's good to tell everything, even the yucky stuff. I did notice
that there are new members and I don't want them to get discouraged.
I am 10 weeks out today and I have lost 50 lbs. I went from 251 to
200.8 lbs as of last night. We have all had some ups and downs, but
the weight loss WILL happen if you have this surgery. Some of you
will lose faster and some slower. It semms, GENERALLY, that if you
are required to diet before surgery, your after-surgery weight seems
to come off slower. Although that is not always the case.
I am having roly poly syndrome right now. Until last weekend I had
not bought or worn any clothes other than what I was wearing before
the surgery. I went to Walmart and bought 4 sweaters in the $11-12
range in size 16. Size 16....WOW. I wore one yesterday and one
today. I went from a size 22 or 2X. I can hardly believe it, but I
keep telling myself that I have lost an AVERAGE of 5 lbs a week. And
three of those weeks I only lost .3 lbs. What a roller coaster ride.
Following the rules is important. If you haven't had the surgery it
is best to prepare. I don't mean for you to go out and buy a lot of
foods that will be recommended by your NUT (nutritionist) because
your tastes will change rapidly. You need to reduce your soda
intake, yes, the diet kind also. Carbonation is out, based on what
the NUT says. Stop smoking. Yes, that is very hard but we are obese
and that is just one bad mark against us when it comes to the
anesthesia, you don't want to have smoking add to the problem. There
is a very good book called "the Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by A Carr,
I think. It worked for a couple of us. Start exercising...just
walking is all you need to do. Yes, it hurts, and you don't have
enough time, and it gets you out of breath and it's starting to get
cold outside. You will wish you had been walking after the surgery,
that's all I will say. Food decisions are hard to predict, so other
than cutting back on the carbonation and caffeine, there isn't much
you can do to prepare for this journey.
Good luck,
Lizanne

You're doing good at 5 cm.. mine were 7-8 and I had 5 tunnels that
actually branch out so it seems like 7 tunnels. You should heal up
quicker then I did hopefully.
As for home nursing. I had it once a week because insurance didn't
cover it. Just to make sure I was doing everything ok. They also
gave me the supplies, well I purchases it from them. Long q-tips
with saline solution and the gauze I would buy at Wal-Mart. If not
for the q-tips they gave me I don't know how I would have packed
them. What are you using to pack?

Re: OJ

I just bought some Low Acid OJ just a few days ago. It's made by
Tropicana and it says LOW ACID pretty big right on the front. It's
not the cheap kind, it's NOT from concentrate and it's WONDERFUL!!
I have started drinking OJ the last few days and it's just about
saved my life! LOL During my weak last few days when I can't eat
much of anything from the gas, I decided to try some OJ....I was a
little worried about it since I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op, but was
desperate for a little nourishment. I suck on a small glass of it
over a short period of time and it gives me just what I need! I hope
they have it in your area. It's so good!!

Okay, Patrice, still keeping my fingers crossed for you (does slow down the

Dr. M will save your gallstones for you as a little after-surgery gift. Only
bad thing is, you'll be saving the #@!* insurance company money by having him
remove your gallbladder!
Keep us informed.

Well, I got the results of the abdominal sonogram today which I had
two days ago. Today's CT confirming results will be given to me
tomorrow I'm guessing. The study says that the left kidney has a
hyperechoic solid area in the cortex of the kidney which appears to
be a solid lesion suggesting it could be an angiomyolipoma. The CT
should confirm this and exclude other solid masses of the kidneys.
The gallbladder appears to be filled with gallstones. Surprise!
Who's isn't.
So, does this mean surgery before my DS surgery? I don't know.
Waiting for one of the doctors to tell me what my next step is.
I sent my passport to get my visa today. That's where my heart is.
I'll let you know if I have to do anything before Brazil or just
take care of it there at the same time.

Hi ya'll!
I just got back from my CT scan. My largest wound has tunneled about
5cm but has not gotten into my abdominal wall or intestines.
WOOOHOOO! Therefore, no surgery!!!
I tried to pack it myself last night but couldn't... I guess I will
have to call my case manager and see if my insurance will cover home
health...
I had a nurse friend ask me - (it sounds good to me) - since the
infection is not currently affecting any tissue other than adipose
(fat) tissue, why can't it be liposuctioned out? It sounds pretty
feasable to me. Does anyone have any ideas on the liposuction
suggestion??

2007-10-17 04:43:58

Hi Konstantin,
The up and down weight is pretty normal for anyone losing weight any way.
Measurements are always the best sign of fat loss and because you wear two sizes
smaller, you are most definitely losing. I have heard at least 100 theories why
we can lose inches and not pounds. I don't care what the reason is, just that we
are still losing. Stop weighing yourself, get a good tape measure and you'll be
happier.

Poor Durval may have his hands full with me- I am teary eyed just

it though so I will have to "toughen up" and "get over it".
Oh, and Deborah, thanks for making the mistake and posting your

There's a reason for everything. : )
Well, I am off to endure my last day of nerves and getting

I go to the hospital! ; )

cute and friendly and is high functioning autistic,

sorry Robin is suffering in pain. I was very lucky, I felt no abdominal
pain at all.

Robin report 2

2007-10-11 22:31:33

I've just returned from the hospital (9:15pm Curitiba time). Robin is
resting comfortably. She was sleeping when I left... or just going
back to sleep. She is experiencing some typical post-surgical pain,
but both Durval and the Physical Therapist assured her it was
completely normal. Durval will be with her throughout the night.
She'll probably be walking by tomorrow, though she'd tell me I was
nuts if I told her that right now. I won't repeat her immediate post-
surgery comments because I suspect she'd want to retract them as soon
as she heard them.
Dr. Marchesini stopped by after surgery to inform me there were no
surprises and that everything went perfectly. She was taken to
surgery at about 1pm and returned to her room at about 6pm.
Robin insisted on before and after pictures, so I'll be posting those
this evening. This request was made pre-surgery... so she can't claim
she was out of her mind later!

Carole, this is wonderful news, I am so happy for you. It is a good
thing that you thought about this medication. So far it seems to be
working. Since you had these stomas you have become housebound and you
have not been associating with your friends because you were embarrased
about the odor. Over a period of time, this can make a person very
depressed.
I am so happy for you!

Oh, Patrice! I'll be thinking of you!! I had some unexpected findings when I

interfere with my having the surgery. In my case, everything worked out just
fine. Hope it does for you, too!

I'm going tomorrow for that one. If they can't read the scan and
diagnosis on the spot they'll give me the iodine test as well. Oh
no. Please don't make me wait or postpone my surgery. I hope this is
just a glitch in the equipment...theirs not mine!

Lizanne,

For your breathe....my Dr. told me to use a mouth wash that is 24 hours. It is called Smart something or other. It is really great. A little costly but so worth it. I got it at walgreens, you can probably get it cheaper at Walmart. You use it twice a day and then can go down to 1 time as you get more comfortable. I highly recommend it - especially when you are going through ketosis.

lizanneflowers <lizanneflowers@...

Penny & Lora,
Actually I eat the no sugar added ones and have not had any trouble,
but they do have 20 gr of carbs. That's my limit. I know that for
some people that is very high, but it works for me. For some reason
I no longer like artificial sweetners. I am sure that will change
and that's one of the reasons I have such a hard time with
fluids....no carbonation, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no
water because my mouth tastes terrible and water just seems to stir
that flavor up (sorry for the description). That doesn't leave me
much. I will improve, I am positive of it.
Lizanne

Tomorrow I step off the curb!

To my wonderful Doctor

2007-10-08 11:06:05

I had promised myself that I would not bother you until I had arrived at my
goal weight loss of 100 pounds. Today I am at a loss of 97 pounds. But I am
too excited to tell you to wait.
I know that you are a very busy man these days as I read the Marchesini board
everyday. It is the first thing I do in the morning and I read all the great
things the new patients are saying.
My life has been so wonderful these past 9 months because of you. I feel
alive. Maybe really for the first time in my life. It is such a pleasure to go
out side and not feel tired. I play and swim and I go to movies, (I can fit
in theater seats now) and I love to go to Disney World and Universal and ride
all the scary rides that I can. I CAN fit in the seats COMFORTABLY.
I even had a dream about you and Durval. The dream was that we were back at
Madallosa's listening to them sing there songs and clapping.
I will always remember you as the kindess and dearest man in my world. I
look forward to the day that my husband can meet you. He hears me talk about
how
wonderful you are. I think secretly he is a little jealous, and he should
be. No other man has made such and impact on my life.
Please know that you are loved by many people, who also respect you for not
only being the most gifted doctor but for being the kind man that you are. No
one, not even one, person that has come back from Curitiba can ever say that
you were not so very kind to them. I am in awe of you.
I am looking forward to seeing you in June when I come back to have my
plastic with Dr. Cavalcanti.

RE: [DrMarchesini-DS] Wendy is Back.....sort of

2007-10-08 02:41:23

Joanne...it is nice to be missed. I am returning from a trip from outer
space...or at least it feels that way. For the past 8 months I have been
wearing a 75 microgram Duragesic Pain Patch and taking 2-3 Percocets a day.
I really hate those Percocets because they don't do that much and I always
fear building such a tolerance to pain meds what if I got a cancer or
something really serious and we couldn't figure out pain control. So my
doctor suggested why not try the 100 mcg patches and see if it helps enough
I can give up the pills. Well, Wednesday night at 7pm I fell asleep in my
living room chair and woke up to have someone knocking on my door. It was
the mailman and it was 11 am the next day. I couldn't believe it. Thursday
and Friday I slept so much I called the doctor and said something was wrong
and could it be the patch. He agreed and I took it off. Well, that was
also a mistake Friday - Sunday I was on such a trip I don't remember much of
anything. All I know is I scared enough people online that my daughter's
phone was ringing all day Sunday. She had no idea what was going on but
many people had her phone number from last year in Brazil. I sure scared
the heck out of her as she got call after call. Anyway, went to the doctor
yesterday, he injected both my knees, put me back on 75 mcg and now we know
I cannot tolerate 100's. So I guess when winter comes it is back to
Percocet. Anyway, I have been answering personal mail but didn't hit any
of the forums until just now and I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of
deleting. I paid some bills Thursday and today got 2 phone calls saying I
either wrote the wrong amount or put them in the wrong envelope. I pay most
things online but the newspaper and rent and a couple other things require
checks. I'm about 90% back to normal and am beginning to wonder what other
stupid things I did last week. I do know I made the appointment with my
surgeon that the gastro insisted I do but have no idea when it is. I have a
lot of backtracking to do...So anyway...it is good to be missed and I'll
slowly but surely reenter the world of cyberspace. I haven't yet figured
out if I liked my trip or not. I'm glad it's over and I feel less fuzzy but
those few days of sleeping all the time and not giving a darn about anything
was also nice in a way. W

WOW Lora!

2007-10-07 20:10:11

I just looked at your pictures. I was amazed at the incision. I had
open but they call it a mini open my incision is about 3 inches long
and starts right under the bra line. I didn't realize the "standard"
open had such a long incision.
How are you doing? You must have been miserable. I'm over 4 months
out and I still feel some pulling and a little discomfort around my
incision.

Just went to see Robin : )

2007-10-07 10:43:47

I went over to the hospital just as she was coming out of recovery.
Everyting went well and they were making her comfortable when I
left. : )
her hubby is right there with her and Durval took me to dinner and
then went back to check on her and make sure she is doing fine.
I am SOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo glad to finally be here. I think I
will try to contact the others and then I am going to bed early
tonight. I am so glad I brought my pillow from home- the dh laughed
at me but somehow I just feel better with it here. I guess it's the
little things, eh?
Tomorrow I have GOT to exchnage some $$$ and find my ok snacks for
after surgery. The language thing is hard to adjust to but Portugese
is a beautiful sounding language. : )

update

2007-10-06 16:40:57

Here's an update to my panicky posting about a 4th stoma forming on
my absomen. I e-mailed Dr. M and he wouldn't be able to do surgery
for me until after the holidays. By that point I will be on medicare
and will be able to do it here in Miami. My exceptionally wonderful
eye doc found a surgeon for me, and he must be very good if he
warrants a reommendation from the eye doc. Dr. M had recommended I
take Imodium and Kaopectate, but neither one of those have worked on
me since I had my original DS back in August 2001. Then I remembered
something my pcp gave me, a drug called Cholesterymine.
Cholesterymine cuts down on the amount of stool your body produces. I
had some left so I went back on it. I noticed that the one stoma I
wouldn't cover with a bag and could only bandage stopped any output
for about 12 hours after I took it. So I called my pcp to see if it
would be safe to use it twice daily and maybe that stoma would close
up altogether. He said to go for it. He also told me that since
Cholesterymine reduced the amount of protein my body accepted I would
need to increase my protein consumption to 100 grams a day from 70.
No problem. It's great. I can leave the bag base on my body through
showers and 4 or 5 days of use without any apprciable odor. I clean
the bags out and re-use them too. But since I no longer smell it just
makes the most amazing difference in how I approach this. I still
don't like stomas - who would - but I've never been a dirty person.
Before though when all 4 stomas were dumping stuff I could take a
shower and 15 minutes later I stank like nobody's business. It was
really depressing. All done now so now I'm socializing more, going
out for walks instead of staying in my building and am enjoying life
so much more.

Re: [WeightLossSurgeryFriends & Support] Normal Weight

2007-10-05 03:53:06

That would be interesting to see. That might be a good way to get an idea of what the world thinks normal is.

I was at my live group tonight, and we were discussing this....according to the dr's, once you have lost 1/2 of your total obesity, they consider you a sucess and "normal" That means that right now, I am normal...I don't feel normal. I use to be a size 10...that felt normal.

Lisa A (The other Lisa)

Lisa A,
Everyone has their own yardstick to measure normal. What do you
think will be normal for you? Are you looking for guidance? I know
that life insurance companies have actuarial tables that show,
heights, weights and length of life based on those values. Maybe I
will see what I can find for you.

post pictures tonight.
She is in room 308 for those of you who are here in Curitiba and wish
