Lisa, I am glad to see you arrived home safely. It is so nice to be back
home, isn't it? I know you missed your family and you were glad to see
them. Be careful and don't over do it.
You can eat anything you want, but you will pay for it later. Your body
has changed since you had surgery. Foods that never caused you gas
before, will give you gas now. Foods that gave people gas before
surgery may have been beans, broccoli, cabbage, etc. Now, muffins,
donuts, potatoes and carbs will give you gas. Sweets and fats will give
you diarrhea.
It has only been 9 days since you had surgery. Can you eat anything you
want? Sure you can, but Dr. M gave you a diet, and his diet says you
should stick to liquids for two weeks, then you can eat soft foods
(eggs, cottage cheese) fish and chicken. You can eat soft foods like
potatoes and gravy, but it will give you gas. Making smart food choices
right now is critical if you want to avoid the nasty consequences of gas
and diarrhea. You will be able to eat all of that good stuff very soon,
just keep in mind you just had surgery and your body is healing. Don't
rush it. When you stick to his diet, you can avoid a lot of gas.
Since I had surgery, I have not had diarrhea since I came home. Not
once. I am very slow to lose weight, so I am avoiding bread, noodles,
rice, potatoes, bread, gravy, sweets. I eat eggs, salads, cheese, meat
and vegetables. None of these foods have given me gas or diarrhea. It
may not work for everyone, but it works for me.
When we were children, we did not say the word "fart" either, we said
flatus. We said BM's when we were toddlers, then we said bowel movements
when we were older. These were not considered dirty words at home.
You said you felt "super", I am so glad to hear that! You never know
how people will feel after surgery. We are all different, so it is hard
to tell. I figured, since you have a house full of children, you must
be a strong woman. LOL You must be feeling pretty good, since you took
the kidlets to Wal-Mart.
How is it going with the two babies? I know it is hard to not pick them
up, when they look at you with those sad, pleading eyes. It is so hard
to say "no" to them. :(
Best of luck with the gas and diarrhea. It will get better with time, I
promise.
Becca
